First thing always, and I repeat ALWAYS, make sure the domain name you plan on using is available and that you buy it before publicating anything.

And if for some reason you come across a poor bloke who hasn’t followed such advice, well then by all mean purchase the domain and sell it for a profit, regradless the amount a profit is a profit isn’t a prophet.

Some friends, the wife and I attended the opening game of a four game series of the Oakland Athletics (insert hoots hollers and much loyalty) versus the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California close to Mexico but not the Dodgers (or Doyers).
Being a big fan of the sport in the sense that I love to watch a baseball game, doesn’t matter where, I just love to watch baseball. Perhaps it stems from my childhood/adolescence, despite being the dreaded ‘fat kid’, baseball was the sport where I had a lot of natural talent(and I do say natural talent because despite having the same training my older brother quite literally reminds me of David Spade and his batting ability in The Benchwarmers). My dad played softball my entire childhood and it lent many opportunities for both fielding and batting practice. Also my oldest brother was an all star player throughout high school and despite an injury in which his coaches hung him out to dry, he still excelled and has some good friends that made it to the ‘big leagues’, one especially Jimmy Rollins who plays for the Phillies. But anywho all to say that I love baseball.
The sport carries with it some of the most universally understood feelings and memories. When I, like many, think of watching a game I think of so much more than just the stats and scoreboard. It has become a encompassing experience, with the smell of hot dogs, seeds and peanuts in the air, cold sweat on my drink, the glare of artificial sunlight producing stadium lights above, when people from all walks of life get together and sit in a mass arena to watch our modern day gladiators compete. They walk into the stadium, everyone eyeing the other to see where their loyalties lie, team jerseys worn as uniforms in war. Memories sparked from letters and numbers displayed on the backs of spectators…”that was a great year”or”boy could that boy hit”and especially”those were the good ‘ol days”. Finding your seat you hear the cries of “Ice cream, getchya ice cream here”and “peanuts, cotton candy, we gotchya peanuts here”sounds that outside of these walls would be mere mockery, here they carry a very comforting feel as they pierce the roaring of the crowds. The anxiousness when a fly ball is floating aimlessly towards the wall and the ensuing roar as it goes over. And most amazing is how the littlest things can sway the emotions of so many people who would in normal situations consider themselves levelheaded. Anyways that is just my glorification of a baseball game….
So yeah last night after some heckling in the beginning the game got started and we(and sports fans do this when they relate closely to their team, we take ownership of their performance…good or bad) hit a homerun in the first inning to start what would be complete and total domination of the home team. As the game progressed the hecklers quieted and their witty remarks soon back lashed(apparently you shouldn’t call a team ‘only minor leaguers‘ if they’re going to win 14-2, it tends to reflect worse on the team being represented more so than the insulted team itself). Overall we had a lot of fun I got some peanuts and exchanged zings with Trevor. The game ended we had won, no fireworks, no chants from the crowd just the silent admiration as one of the youngest and least payed teams had conquered its Goliath.

Oh yeah, and if you don’t like to watch baseball when you’re at the game…don’t worry there is another form of excitement to be had…one of the few things that can, in an instant, distract the most avid fan.

Auf Wiedersehen,

theBorch

I would not consider myself a novice to the internets by any means…except that of blogging, and only in the sense that I lack the mental inertia to actually update said blogs. I know when selecting a domain name or email address etc. etc. anything involving uniqueness on the web is delicate task, as most of the common names are taken (and taken does not at all infer actual use). So when choosing a name I attempted various funny/sarcastic/unique names for my spot on the blogger (which I only intend to use to update my wordpress blog that I host on my own). I was, not surprisingly, rejected with most of my choices, which is fine, except for the fact that every single one I tried was apparently registered to persons who are worse than I in terms of blogging. All of them had less than 3 posts on them dating no newer than 2001, and the last one I tried, not being the most creative name out there, caused me to forfeit and stick to my normal name of theBorch. So I bid thee welcome and hope that I have some form of dedication to this blog, for my brain and its personality shall be fighting me on it regularly.

Shalom
